In just seven years, Paws In The City has grown from a handful of exuberant volunteers, to one of the largest groups in the Metroplex. Our success has many roots: a committed group of volunteers, a sound fundraising philosophy, and a strong marketing presence. Mostly, however, people are impressed with our passion for saving animals - and that leads to more volunteers and supporters.
No one that has seen us in action could doubt our commitment or our sincerity. We'll do whatever it takes to get our animals adopted into good homes - whether that means spending our weekends in freezing rain or sweltering heat, or spending our evenings finding fosters for a temporary shelter for a new dog. Unlike many organizations, we don't place a value on pedigree - every good animal deserves a good home, regardless of its heritage. So if you come to a Paws event, you'll see everything from purebreds to identifiable mixed breeds to completely unrecognizable mutts - all equally eager to bring joy and companionship to a new home.
Animal Rescue is expensive. Every animal we bring in requires some immediate medical attention. Many require boarding and training as well. Those three items - veterinary attention, boarding, and training - account for almost 95% of our expenses. Whereas many animal rescue groups raise the bulk of their funds through grants, we've always believed that the majority of our money should be raised through interacting with the community, rather than filling out forms. When we put on a fundraising event, we don't just raise money, we form bonds with our supporters. With our direct pleas for animals in need there is a name and face that those sending their supports can see.
One day, hopefully, there will be no need for Paws In The City. Unfortunately, for the Metroplex, that day is far in the future. Until then, we will need continued support from the community to further our cause. If you've read this far, you must be an animal lover. Whether you decide to support Paws In The City or another animal group, get involved!
